Columbus Metropolitan Club - 7-15-2020 - Racism - Where Do We Go From Here? Young Black Women Speak

Young people taking the lead in revolutions around the world from the Arab Spring to the Hippies of the '60s to global warming to the current Black Lives Matter is a well-documented phenomenon. Young people are long recognized as energized change agents. In a June 12 article in the Columbus Dispatch former Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman says "I absolutely believe it's our young folks who are going to make the difference in this, (systematic racism) more than any other time. They have the ideas, the energy, the passion. They need to be substantially at the table to engage in this process. Otherwise it won't work." Community leaders are seeing young people around the country and world standing up and making their voices heard, which some believe will be the catalyst to transform government and business policies and practices, as well as minds and cultural mores. in the second half of our series with listening to young people's voices, we will have young Black women speak to us.

Featuring Olivia Pierre-Louis, Student at Columbus Academy, Jenae Talison, Student at Tennessee University, and Brooke Rayford, Americorps VISTA and Public Information Officer, City of Columbus, Department of Neighborhoods My Brother's Keeper Village Program will host.
