University School
Coached by Peter Paik

Evan Meisler has competed in Lincoln-Douglas debate for University School all four years of his high school career. He has been coached over the years by Mr. Peter Paik, Ms. Amy Dinsmore, and Mr. James Lewis. Presently he is the head captain of the University School Speech and Debate Team. Evan qualified for the state tournament as a freshman, junior and senior, among other successes. This year, he won two district titles, earned his second consecutive finish as a state semifinalist, and qualified for nationals. Debate aside, Evan is an avid cross-country runner and a co-captain of University School's track team. He is pursuing a research project at the Cleveland Clinic concerning the optical effects of a corneal transplant procedure and enjoys writing short stories.

For over two decades, The City Club has hosted the annual High School Debate Championships sponsored by the law firm of Baker Hostetler, LLP in memory of Patrick Jordon. Every year, the top two area high school debaters square off in a classic "Lincoln-Douglas" style debate at a Friday Forum. This gives the debaters the opportunity to compete not only for the judges and the audience in the room, but also for our radio and television audiences. Debate teams from across Northeast Ohio are invited to attend as guests of The City Club and Baker Hostetler, LLP.
