Attorney General Mike DeWine - Right to Cure Legislation

Play

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced his support of the "Right to Cure" bill in an Ohio Statehouse press conference with bill sponsors, Rep. Ron Young (R-Leroy Twp.) and Rep. Lynn Slaby (R-Copley Twp.). The Right to Cure legislation is intended to help consumers and business owners come to a quick and fair resolution when there's a dispute that reaches the court level.

Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act was enacted in 1972, so consumers could pursue businesses for deceptive and unfair business practices. With the Right to Cure bill, both businesses and consumers have an incentive to reach a reasonable settlement early in the litigation process.

Several other states have passed similar Right to Cure bills, including Indiana, West Virginia, Virginia, and Illinois.
