Description
Algorithms have overtaken our lives.
And while that's not exactly news, what's startling is the degree to which these mathematically-determined decisions infiltrate our lives.
From what movies we might want to watch to what groceries we might want to eat to even what clothing and decor we want to own.
They're predictive and pervasive and potentially guiding us in ways that curtail human experience in favor of corporate profits.
Essentially, being told what we should like is easy, but machine-guided curation may not be what's best for humanity.
We're spending the hour with Kyle Chayka, author of Filterworld: How Algorithms Flattened Culture.
Guest:
Kyle Chayka, staff writer at The New Yorker/author of Filterworld: How Algorithms Flattened Culture
