Writers Talk - Wayne Pacelle

Wayne Pacelle is the President & CEO of the Humane Society of the United States. He started an animal-advocacy group in college and then at age 23 became the executive director of the Fund for Animals. In his new book, "The Bond: Our Kinship With Animals, Our Call to Defend Them," Pacelle calls attention to the conflicting messages that exist about our human relationship with animals and urges readers to take a serious look at our moral conduct. We say we love animals and want to protect them, but yet we have factory farming, fur trapping and animal testing. The author believes we can "find a way to live our lives, maintain a robust economy, a high quality of life, but not leave a trail of animal victims in the process."

Pacelle visits Writers Talk to discuss his vision of a "humane economy" - wherein he advocates not for animal rights, but for human responsibility.
