Karen Russell's first novel, "Swamplandia!," was published in 2011. The plotline is based on one of her short stories from the collection "St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves." She visits Writers Talk to discuss the "flocks of creatures" that appear in her stories, her stint as a vet tech, and her favorite part of writing - which she concedes is on the sentence level.
