In his latest book "History and Future: Using Historical Thinking to Imagine the Future," author and historian David Staley aims to break down what historians do. In his words, "They don't really study the past - they study the things that are leftover from the past." He also asserts that futurists should examine the future in the same way that a historian examines the past, and that one can only speak about the future and past in terms of probabilities.
Staley, who is also the director of the Harvey Goldberg Center for Excellence in Teaching in the history department of Ohio State University, joins Writers Talk and advises viewers that "Anybody who says they can predict the future is selling you snake oil."
