The State of Ohio - The Future of Rail in Ohio

Another post is filled in the cabinet of John Kasich. And Kasich says information on people applying for jobs with his administration will be released once he takes office. A longtime northeast Ohio state senator who won a seat in the House last month has decided to stay where he is. The leaders in the Ohio House took Sen. Tim Grendell's decision in stride in an interview this week. The full interview with Minority Leader and incoming Speaker Bill Batchelder (R-Medina) and current Speaker and incoming Minority Leader Armond Budish (D-Beachwood) will air on "The State of Ohio" next week.

At his news conference this week introducing the new head of ODOT, Gov.-elect John Kasich made his attitude on the 3C passenger rail project very clear - in his department of transportation, there would be no games, no politics and no train. But passenger rail advocates aren't ready to call the whole idea derailed. Ken Prendergast is the executive director of All Aboard Ohio, an advocacy group supporting passenger train travel in Ohio, and has called Kasich's position a "stubborn, destructive stance".

There are plenty of people in Ohio who weren't impressed with the 3C passenger rail plan but are concerned about what happens next for rail in Ohio. The discussion continues with two people with less enthusiastic views of the 3C project - Gene Krebs with Greater Ohio and Republican public policy consultant Mike Dawson.
