The State of Ohio - The 2010 Ohio State Fair

Two more big endorsements in the governor's race this week - the Fraternal Order of Police is backing Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland, and National Federation of Independent Business-Ohio is endorsing Republican John Kasich. The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that a woman who claimed abuse by a priest who was never indicted on those charges is entitled to see reports about the investigation. And the court says a criminal can still be charged with a crime if the statute of limitations for another crime ran out while he was on the run from other charges.

With a state budget deficit of as much as 8 billion dollars ahead, politicians say everything is on the table. And if that is taken literally, that includes higher education. Eric Fingerhut, the Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, talks about the budget and its impact on Ohio's colleges and universities, and on the students in the system and those who support them.

It's getting hot and humid in Ohio - and of course that means it's time for the state's annual big party. The 2010 Ohio State Fair, the 157th edition of it, opens to the public on Wednesday. State Fair general manager Virgil Strickler offers a quick preview - more next week.
