Hearings on the state budget are still on hold while the spending plan is being revised. House Speaker Armond Budish and Minority Leader Bill Batchelder talk about how far behind lawmakers are on the budget, which must be in place by the end of June.
Lawmakers are still waiting on the conference committee working on the differences between the House and Senate versions of the transportation budget. Provisions that would allow speed cameras in work zones, primary enforcement of the seat belt law, funding for the department of public safety and the end of payments to fuel retailers and dealers are thought to be the major sticking points. State officials say 149 infrastructure projects will be fully or partially funded in Ohio using $774 million in federal money. And the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association is deciding on a labor contract that includes no pay increases for the next three years and mandatory 10-day furloughs in the first two years.
Almost a year ago, a scandal that shocked many Ohioans started developing in the attorney general's office, as Marc Dann suspended his general services director, Anthony Gutierrez, who was being accused of sexually harassing two female employees. He resigned on May 16, but that didn't bring an end to his troubles. A year later, Marc Dann has been back in Columbus, to face charges before the Ohio Elections Commission, which is deciding whether he misused campaign funds. And he also could face more charges down the road. Marc Dann talks about the scandal, on his legal issuse, and on whether he'll run for office in the future.
