The State of Ohio - Gov. Strickland's State Budget; Former Governors

HEADLINES: What would have been the first execution under the Strickland administration went down to the wire - and passed it - before it was called off. A state senator has been promoted not just to the head of the state's higher education system, but possibly into the governor's cabinet. The Secretary of State has asked members of an embattled board of elections to step down. And smoking may be allowed in some private clubs after all.

SEGMENT 1:
Governor Strickland's two year, $53 billion budget is now with lawmakers who will be dissecting his proposals. House Speaker Jon Husted told reporters this week that process is well underway. Two experts have been going over the numbers: David Hansen from the Buckeye Institute and John Corlett of the Center for Community Solutions.

SEGMENT 2 (video highlights):
Former governors John Gilligan, Richard Celeste and Bob Taft teamed up for a rare public appearance, to give students from Cleveland State University's Levin College for Urban Affairs a unique view of government from the top. The trio talked about higher education, budgets, and what they considered to be the risks they took that worked. Governor Gilligan began with his thoughts on the state income tax, which now accounts for 60 percent of state revenues.
