The Sound of Ideas - '5 of 8' School Rule Challenged

Play

The state Board of education wants to eliminate a rule that requires districts to staff at least five of these eight positions for every thousand students: Elementary art, music and physical education teachers, counselors, library media specialists, nurses, social workers and visiting teachers. Proponents say they're not cutting, just putting local districts in control. Critics say cuts are bound to follow.
