The Sound of Ideas - 5-16-2019 Slavic Village Homecoming

The faithful in Slavic Village know what they're up against. The neighborhood was ground zero nationally for the foreclosure crisis and still bears the scars. A large percentage of residents live in poverty. Crime persists. Like most neighborhoods, it will never be what it once was. But they are not dissuaded. Slavic Village, they say, is worth fighting for. We take the show to Bob and Sheri's 49er Restaurant in Cleveland's Broadway-Slavic Village neighborhood for this episode. The nonprofit University Settlement is hosting a homecoming this weekend and we will talk with residents and others about what this home looks like today, what it once was, and what the hopes are for its future.

Guests:
Earl Pike, Executive Director, University Settlement

Anthony Brancatelli, Ward 12, Cleveland City Council

Mayia Allen, University Settlement Board Member, Slavic Village Resident

Charles Gliha, Carpenter, Activist, Slavic Village Resident
