Secretary of State Jon Husted - Update on Preparations for 2012 Presidential Election
At a press conference in Columbus on October 1, 2012, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted provides an update on preparations for the 2012 Presidential Election ahead of the start to early voting.
Secretary Husted announces that as of September 28th, more than 920,000 absentee ballot applications to vote by mail had been received by county boards of elections statewide. County boards of elections begin sending ballots to eligible voters who have requested them on October 2nd, 35 days ahead of the November 6th General Election.
2012 General Election by the Numbers
·7.8 Million Ohioans are currently registered to vote.
·922,199 absentee ballot applications have been received as of Friday, September 28, 2012.
·10,823 Military and overseas absentee ballots have been distributed as of Friday, September 28, 2012.
·More than 750 Hours over the course of five weeks are available to voters who choose to complete and return their ballots by mail.
·Nearly 6.9 Million absentee ballot applications were sent out to Ohio voters over the course of two statewide mailings. (Initial: 6,488,648; Supplemental: 394,094)
·62,600 voters and counting have updated their address online at www.MyOhioVote.com
Voters must submit absentee ballot requests to county boards of elections no later than noon on November 3, 2012. Forms can also be downloaded at: www.MyOhioVote.com. Voted ballots must be postmarked by the day before Election Day and received no later than the 10 days after the election (November 16, 2012). Absentee ballots may also be delivered in person to boards of elections by the close of the polls on Election Day. They may not be returned at polling locations.
