Remarkable Ohio - Germantown Covered Bridge

Play

This cherished old landmark, the Germantown Covered Bridge, was erected in 1870. With its unique inverted bowstring truss, the bridge spanned Little Twin Creek on the Dayton Pike for 41 years. In 1911 it was moved to its present location on East Center Street, but by 1963 the bridge had become dangerous and was closed to traffic. It was then that the people of Germantown chose to preserve it as a landmark. At 93 years old, the Germantown Covered Bridge was restored and beautified as a link with Ohio's early history. It is reputed to be the only existing covered bridge of its kind in the world.
