Press Conference - Updating Internet Importuning Penalties

Play

State Representatives Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) and Kent Smith (D-Euclid) host a press conference to give a briefing on legislation to update importuning penalties in the Ohio Revised Code. The bipartisan bill seeks to correct an oversight in current law that allows those convicted of importuning, or soliciting a minor for sex over the internet, to receive little to no prison time when they are sentenced. The bill passed out of the House of Representatives as House Bill 405 last General Assembly by a vote of 95-0. The representatives will also be joined by officials from the law enforcement community who have been instrumental in supporting the legislation.

Joining Rep. Schaffer and Smith are members from Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Cuyahoga County and the Village of Baltimore Police Department.
