Press Conference, Legislative - Legislation to Address Sudden Cardiac Arrest in Youth Athletes

Play

State Senator Cliff Hite (R-Findlay) and Lindsay Davis, Heart Health Advocate and former Miss Ohio, discuss legislation that seeks to prevent sudden cardiac arrest in Ohio's student-athlete population.

The legislation would call for pre-participation education, online training for coaches, and guidelines for recognizing and dealing with the symptoms of sudden cardiac arrest. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, thousands of children die from sudden cardiac arrest every year.

The budget-neutral legislation is modeled after concussion legislation that has passed in all 50 states and aims at raising awareness of sudden cardiac arrest to ensure preparedness and proper response.
