Press Conference - Increasing Protection for Sexual Assault Victims

Play

State Reps. Kristin Boggs (D-Columbus) and Erica Crawley (D-Columbus) join state Sens. Hearcel Craig (D-Columbus) and Stephanie Kunze (R-Columbus) to introduce legislation that seeks to increase protections for sexual assault victims in Ohio.

This legislation came to fruition after 43 patients aged 14 to 74 came forward with allegations against a Clintonville chiropractor, who pled "no contest" to 66 counts of sexual imposition and was sentenced to only 180 days in prison to be served over 60 consecutive weekends.

Reps. Boggs and Crawley have held several meetings with Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein, the victims of the chiropractor in question, and state Sens. Craig and Kunze in an effort to put forth a comprehensive proposal ensuring sexual assault perpetrators receive proper sentencing- especially under circumstances with victims at the hands of trusted healthcare professionals, and minor victims under the age of 18. Sens. Craig and Kunze will be introducing companion legislation in the Senate chamber.

Speakers include:
State Rep. Kristin Boggs (D-Columbus)
State Rep. Erica Crawley (D-Columbus)
State Sen. Hearcel Craig (D-Columbus)
State Sen. Stephanie Kunze (R-Columbus)
