Ohio Channel Presents - Rhodes Tower Falcon Banding

Wildlife biologists from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife equipped three peregrine falcon chicks at the Rhodes State Office Tower with metal identification bands on Tuesday, May 20th. The event was aired live on the FalconCam Website http://wildlife.ohiodnr.gov/falconcam for the world to watch.

Identification bands, similar to a bracelet, were placed on the birds for research purposes. Numbers on the bands are specific to that bird and are useful to identify it in the future once it migrates out of the Columbus area later this summer. Students from the Griffith Thomas Elementary School in Dublin who submitted the winning entries in a contest to name the young birds assisted in the banding of the chicks. They were Trey Cleveland (Dart), Riley Harris (Blaze) and Kanna Takehara (Hoshi).
