Gov. John R. Kasich, Ohio Department of Mental Health Director Tracy Plouck, and many others spoke at NAMI's Day at the Ohio Statehouse in recognition of May as National Mental Health Awareness Month. More than 500 advocates -- including individuals with mental illness and their loved ones -- came together to raise awareness about mental illness and to urge others to do their part by symbolically shredding hurtful words attributed to mental illness. The event was held in conjunction with the Ohio Federation for Children's Mental Health annual Resiliency Ring.
