This program gives Ohioans a weekly update on legislation brought up for third consideration in the Ohio Senate and House of Representatives for the week of March 31st.
The Ohio Senate passed Amended House Bill 497, sponsored by Representative Amstutz, which makes capital appropriations and changes to the law governing capital projects for the biennium ending June 30, 2016.
Substitute House Bill 206 also passed this week. Sponsored by Representative Retherford, this bill creates the "Ohio Statehouse" license plate, the "Disabled American Veteran" license plate, and the "POW/MIA Awareness" license plate.
Also passed was Substitute Senate Bill 260, sponsored by Senator Patton. This bill is relative to motor vehicle dealer licensure.
Sponsored by Representatives Sears and Milkovich, Amended Substitute House Bill 232 was passed. This bill modifies the laws governing professional counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists.
Substitute House Bill 315 was also passed, sponsored by Representative Wachtmann, regarding newborns diagnosed as opioid dependent.
Substitute Senate Bill 6, sponsored by Senator Schaffer, passed this week, establishing initial education programs and continuing education requirements for fiscal officers and establishes procedures for removal of those officers.
Substitute Senate Bill 78, which also passed this week, was sponsored by Senator Hughes and makes changes to the law regulating specialty construction contractors.
Substitute Senate Bill 278, sponsored by Senators Jones and Tavares, also passed, requiring the completion of a sudden unexplained infant death investigation reporting form whenever a child one year of age or younger dies suddenly and the cause of death is not obvious prior to investigation.
Senate Bill 185 was passed. This bill, sponsored by Senator Faber, designates a portion of State Route 67 within Auglaize County as the "Staff Sgt. Sonny Zimmerman Memorial Highway."
Substitute Senate Bill 172, sponsored by Senator Patton, passed this week, modifying the laws governing land reutilization programs and property tax foreclosures.
Amended Substitute House Bill 223, sponsored by Representatives Grossman and Curtin, was passed. This bill is relative to foreclosure actions for abandoned residential properties and unoccupied and blighted parcels.
Also passed was Amended House Bill 234, sponsored by Representatives Grossman and Becker. This bill allows for the use of a noise suppressor attached to a gun while hunting game birds or wild quadrupeds.
Amended House Bill 362, which also passed this week, was sponsored by Representatives Scherer and Derickson and authorizes the STEM Committee to grant a designation of STEM school equivalent to a community school or chartered nonpublic school.
Amended House Bill 379, sponsored by Representatives Blessing and Landis, providing civil immunity for architects, contractors, engineers, surveyors, and tradespersons providing volunteer services during a declared emergency, also passed.
Sponsored by representatives Baker and Landis, Substitute House Bill 393 was passed. This bill requires public high schools to publish annually education and career exploration information, including access to the OhioMeansJobs web site.
House Bill 394, sponsored by Representatives Smith and Antonio, passed this week, regarding the authority of pharmacists and pharmacy interns to administer immunizations.
Amended House Bill 397, which also passed this week, was sponsored by Representative Hill, increasing the penalty for failure to stop after an accident that result in the death of a person or serious physical harm to a person.
Amended House Bill 404, sponsored by Representatives DeVitis and Slaby, was passed. This bill designates the Portage Lakes area in Summit County the Purple Martin Capital of Ohio.
