Legislative Update - January 27 - January 31, 2014 (Short)
 
 
This is your Legislative Update for the week of January 27th.

The Ohio Senate passed Amended Substitute House Bill 123, sponsored by Representatives Gonzales and Wachtmann, regarding health care peer review committee proceedings and Medicaid coverage of telehealth services.

Amended House Bill 139 passed as well, sponsored by Representative Gonzales. This bill permits certain advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants to admit patients to hospitals.

Senate Bill 209 also passed, sponsored by Senator Manning, designating a portion of State Route 58 within Lorain County as "Sergeant Louis Torres Memorial Highway."

Also passed was Senate Bill 227, sponsored by Senator Beagle, designating the second Tuesday of April as "Ohio Internship and Co-Op Appreciation day."

In the Ohio House of Representatives, Amended Senate Bill 98 was passed. This bill, sponsored by Senators Obhof and Kearney, expands the list of entities that may serve as statutory agents.

Also passed was Senate Bill 198, sponsored by Senators Jones and Tavares, designating October as "Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Awareness Month."

Amended House Bill 113, sponsored by Representatives Antonio and Henne, passed as well. This bill specifies that school districts and chartered nonpublic schools may excuse students from high school physical education if participating in a school-sponsored athletic club.

Also passed was Amended House Bill 261, sponsored by Representatives Butler and Stinziano, relative to court of claims operations and procedures for judge disqualification.

Substitute House Bill 307, sponsored by Representative Buchy, also passed, relative to adoption procedures.

House Bill 399, sponsored by Representatives Sheehy and Sprague, also passed this week. This bill designates the first Friday of May as "Prescription Drug Awareness and Education Day."
