This program gives Ohioans a weekly update on legislation brought up for third consideration in the Ohio Senate and House of Representatives.
During the week of January 20th, the Ohio Senate passed Substitute Senate Bill 150, sponsored by Senators Hite and Peterson, modifying the laws governing the application of fertilizer and abatement of agricultural pollution.
Also passed was Senate Bill 185, sponsored by Senator Faber, designating a portion of State Route 67 within Auglaize County as "Staff Sargent Sonny Zimmerman Memorial Highway."
Senate Bill 222 also passed this week. Sponsored by Senator LaRose, this bill designates a portion of State Route 8 in the municipal corporation of Stow as the "Second Lieutenant David E. Rylander Memorial Highway."
Senate Bill 226, sponsored by Senator Beagle, was also passed, designating a portion of State Route 41 in Miami County as the "Sheriff's Sargent Robert 'Bobby' Elliott Memorial Highway."
Senate Bill 230, which also passed this week, was sponsored by Senators Manning and Oelslager and establishes standards for the delivery of non-self-injectable cancer drugs.
In the Ohio House of Representatives, Substitute House Bill 315, sponsored by Representative Wachtmann, was passed. This bill requires reports to the Department of Health regarding newborns diagnosed as opioid dependent, updates the chemical name for a type of controlled substance, and specifies procedures for granting variances or waivers in the rules governing operation of maternity homes.
Also passed was Amended Substitute House Bill 8, sponsored by Representatives Roegner and Kunze. This bill revises various school safety laws regarding the possession of deadly weapons by school employees and off-duty peace officers.
Substitute House Bill 129, sponsored by Representative Stautberg, which also passed this week, specifies that the lawful definition of menacing include words or conduct that are directed at or identify a corporation, association, or organization.
Sponsored by Representative Brenner, Substitute House Bill 193 also passed, with respect to state academic achievement assessments and high school graduation requirements.
Substitute House Bill 213, sponsored by Representatives Celebrezze and Pelanda, was also passed, modifying numerous laws regarding custody of abused, neglected, or dependent children.
Also passed was Amended House Bill 318, sponsored by Representative Roegner and Representative O'Brien. This bill permits a new motor vehicle dealer to display new motor vehicles at a location other than the dealer's licensed location if such display is for an educational institution. The bill also alters the statutory procedures governing motor vehicle shows and clarifies the law governing the retail sale of utility and certain other trailers.
The Ohio House of Representatives presented one resolution during the week of January 20th; Representative Gonzales honored the Columbus Academy field hockey team on winning the 2013 State Championship.
