Play

On July 16, 2022, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255) transitioned to the new, easy-to-remember 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Over the past year, tens of thousands of Ohioans experiencing a crisis due to suicidal thoughts, mental health or addiction have called, texted, or chatted with trained counselors.

Ohio officials, including Governor Mike DeWine, Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Director Lori Criss, Ohio 988 Administrator Doug Jackson, State Rep. Gail Pavliga (R-Portage County), provide an update on system implementation, share key metrics, discuss funding, and unveil a new, Ohio-specific logo for 988. Rick Baumann, who has been a volunteer and employee of North Central Mental Health Services will share his experiences both from the perspective of his work in one of Ohio's 19 call centers and as a parent who lost a son to suicide.

Ohio 988 is part of the state's larger commitment to providing quality, person-centered crisis supports in communities throughout Ohio.
