Columbus Metropolitan Club - Lessons from Renoir to Degas and Beyond

Nannette Maciejunes, Executive Director, Columbus Museum of Art

Creating memorable art experiences for everyone is the mission of the Columbus Museum of Art. Director Nannette V. Maciejunes has steered the Museum toward welcoming broader audiences to enjoy the Museum's treasures and mounting internationally recognized art exhibitions designed for wide public appeal. Following the success of the 2005 show, Renoir's Women, Maciejunes will explain the risks and rewards of this strategy and highlight the Fall 2006 exhibition.

Focusing on the magnificent landscapes that Degas painted at the seaside resort of Saint-Val?ry-sur-Somme on the northern French coast, the Edgar Degas: The Last Landscapes exhibition explores the artist's particular connection with the resort town he had known since childhood and his late-in-life desire to create landscapes that would rival those of his Impressionist and Post-Impressionist colleagues. Rich and complex in color and composition, the Saint-Val?ry landscapes demonstrate the same bold inventiveness that can be found in Degas's contemporary renderings of bathers and dancers.

Join Nannette V. Maciejunes and Columbus Metropolitan Club for an insider's take on the Museum's plans and goals, as well as an overview of the exhibition. As Columbus will be the only U.S. venue for this exhibition, revel with us as we recognize the growing appeal and acclaim for the Museum and, specifically, the Edgar Degas: The Last Landscapes exhibit!
