A Day in the Life of a Ballerina

BalletMet dancer and Columbus native Samantha Lewis has been with the company for six years. She shows us what life is like as a ballet dancer, both on stage and off.

Behind the Scenes at Columbus Metropolitan Library

The Columbus Metropolitan Library serves 21 locations in Franklin County, and its operations center in Gahanna serves as a hub for the movement of all the materials that move through the system. We sneak behind the scenes after dark to find out just exactly how the books get onto the shelf.

Short North Murals

The series of murals dotting the Short North marks the second time in recent years that the urban arts district has installed large-scale public artwork on brick buildings to showcase young professional artists from the area. Eleven galleries and art institutions selected the artists and artwork for the popular temporary mural series, titled "Viewpoints: Murals by Young Professional Working Artists." The murals, printed on vinyl and adhered to the exterior brick facades of 11 buildings along the High Street corridor, will be on view through March 2015. By showcasing and celebrating local artists, the Short North aims to remind visitors that it remains a vibrant hub of arts and culture in Central Ohio.

Artist Jenny Fine and "Flat Granny"
Columbus artist Jenny Fine says her camera has become a tool for facilitating intimacy between herself and her family, and nowhere is that more evident than in her "Flat Granny" series. The artist photographed her grandmother during the last ten years of her life and has used those images as a way to extend their relationship beyond her grandmother's death. What started as a simple cardboard cut-out has evolved into a full-size body costume, giving us a thought-provoking 21st-century update on the role of photographs as stand-ins for absent loved ones.
