Maurice Clarett's success on the football field as a key member of the 2002 Ohio State University national championship team was followed by struggles with drugs, alcohol, and a prison sentence for armed robbery. Then came a self-engineered redemption and his emergence as a civic leader in his hometown, Youngstown. Today, Clarett educates and empowers people to create goals and develop paths to a fulfilling life. He co-founded The Red Zone, a resource for those struggling with mental illness, drugs, alcohol, and housing issues. The Red Zone's purpose is to help people envision a better self and achieve goals they may have considered out of reach.
Maurice Clarett has traveled throughout the nation speaking to universities, high schools, businesses, non-profits, and faith-based organizations to relate his story of success, failure, and reinvention, and to help others place themselves on a path to a productive life. Setting personal targets, and learning how to reach them, drives responsible, self-fulfilling behavior, he says.
