Marian Anderson was one of the most celebrated singers of the twentieth century. She became an important figure in the struggle for African American artists to overcome racial prejudice in the United States during the mid-twentieth century.

She is portrayed by Dr. Carren Moham, Professor Emerita of Music at Illinois Wesleyan University and a member of educational storytellers known as "We've Known Rivers."
