Applause - Mike Levy, Plain Dealer

In his 16 years as a photographer for the Plain Dealer, Mike Levy framed the visuals for all sorts of news stories. About six years ago, Mike went off to shoot a story which seemed like a routine assignment at a local worship space, but it turned out to be the first step on a spiritual journey. That journey is now chronicled in Mike's book of photo essays titled Revelations: Photographs of Cleveland's African-American Churches. Recently, Mike Levy sat down in our KeyBank Studio to share some of the stories behind his photos....

The term "white flight" has long been synonymous with white Americans who move to the suburbs, but in a new exhibit at MOCA Cleveland, photographer Sheila Pree Bright exposes this notion of the migration to the "burbs." In conjunction with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History's Race Exhibit Bright's show Suburbia challenges the viewer's assumptions about race, wealth and the middle class.

Like the artists who appeared earlier on this edition of Applause, guitarist Les Paul wasn't content with the status quo. At every stage of his career Paul stepped out in front of the curve as a pioneer and he made artful music all along the way. Each year the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum pays tribute to popular music innovators by selecting them as American Music Master honorees. This year that award goes to Les Paul, both for his cutting edge inventions, and his more than 75 years of experience in the music business. A few years ago our ideastream cameras caught up with Les Paul for an exclusive interview before a concert at the Rock Hall.
