Applause - Charley Harper, Illustrator

Webster's defines a comic strip as a series of cartoons in a narrative sequence. But today's comics are much more than that! These days you're more likely to see political satire and stories ripped from the headlines in the funny papers.

When artist Peter Kuper moved from Cleveland to New York he knew that one day he'd return home to square things with all of the cool-cats, bullies and babes who once tormented him as a high school nerd. In his new book, Stop Forgetting to Remember, Kuper confronts those perilous days with humor through his alter ego Walter Kurtz.

Prolific... argumentative... confrontational... critically outspoken... humorous and insightful are just some of the words used to not only describe the body of work of graphic novelist Harvey Pekar... but the man himself. A mentor to Cleveland cartoonist, Peter Kuper, Harvey Pekar has influenced many in the graphic novel genre, with his memoir-style of writing. But Harvey's most recent work has nothing to do with him. Harvey Pekar joins us to tell us more.

Ohio illustrator Charley Harper always liked to brag that he was the only wildlife artist who had never been compared with Audubon. Nonetheless, his often whimsical takes on wild birds and animals have been praised by naturalists for their accuracy.
