All Sides with Ann Fisher - 10:00 AM - Renegade Amish: Beard Cutting and Hate Crimes

Play

Amish hate crimes. It's not a common phrase, but in 2012 members of a breakaway Amish group were convicted of federal hate crimes against members of their own faith. Recently a court overturned those charges, potentially redefining laws regarding victims from protected classes. This hour we'll discuss the current case and its implications, and look back at the violence a peace-loving community perpetrated against itself.

Guests:

Donald Kraybill, author of Renegade Amish: Beard Cutting, Hate Crimes, and the Trial of the Bergholz Barbers
Noah Feldman, professor of law at Harvard Law School
