Spotlight : Riffe Gallery - Against the Grain: Modernism in the Midwest
The Ohio Arts Council's Riffe Gallery presents Against the Grain: Modernism in the Midwest from November 4, 2010 - January 9, 2011. Curated by Christine Fowler Shearer, this exhibition includes approximately 65 paintings produced between 1900 and 1950. These paintings explore the similarities and differences in the development of Modernism by artists who were born in, studied, or worked in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin.
Artists in the show include: Gertrude Abercrombie, Ivan Albright, Thomas Hart Benton, August Biehle, Charles Burchfield, Manierre Dawson, Clara Deike, Frances Foy, Victor Higgins, Henry Keller, William Schwartz, William Sommer, Alice Schille, and William Zorach.
